Liam Gerussi's CANADIA, herein referred to as "The CANADIA Blog", is a project to document, explore, and attempt to explain the strange cultural relationship between Canada and the U.S., and specifically, the subtle but very real differences between Canadians and Americans.
Americans should never underestimate the constant pressure on Canada which the mere presence of the United States has produced. We're different people from you and we're different people because of you. Living next to you is in some ways like sleeping with an elephant. No matter how friendly and even-tempered is the beast, if I can call it that, one is effected by every twitch and grunt. It should not therefore be expected that this kind of nation, this Canada, should project itself as a mirror image of the United States.

About "The Canadia Blog"
I created this blog as an experimental art project, online forum, brainstorming tool, and creative resource for Canadians and Americans who, despite ingrained mutual stereotypes, seek to understand the Canadian or American Other.
The blog is one element in a project that will culminate in the production of a documentary film (tentatively titled "Canadia"). "Canadia" takes as its subject the non-visibility of Canada to the United States; the woeful ignorance that Americans have been known to display towards all things Canadian; and Canada's love-hate relationship with the United States. It's main purpose is to try to shed some light on the stereotypes Canadians and Americans have of one another.
"CANADIA" hopes to encourage us (Canadians and Americans alike) to think outside the cultural box -- to understand and be understood -- and to truly get to know their national neighbour.

Wow. I just came across a link to your blog on Eli Braun's blog. I didn't know how to contact you for some time due to the disconnection of your brown account which I emailed a few times in the past year and a half.
I am also working on a film now. Starting in September I'll be making a documentary in Israel on the pork industry there. I'd love to talk to you about stuff and see how you're doing. I missed you last year and was sad to hear that you were not coming back.
